Lawn Mowing

A striped, edged lawn every week — without owning a mower.

SpringSummerFall

Nova Scotia lawns grow like a rumor spreads — slowly through a cold May, then all at once in June. A weekly mowing plan keeps yours at the sweet spot: about 9 cm (3 inches), cut with sharp blades, never scalped, with clippings mulched back in as free fertilizer.

One crew, one day of the week, one predictable invoice. You come home to a finished lawn every time — edges trimmed, hard surfaces blown off, gate closed behind us.

What's included

  • Weekly or biweekly mowing on a fixed schedule (your day, every week)
  • Height managed to the season — higher in July heat, lower for the final fall cuts
  • String trimming along fences, beds, foundations, and hard-to-reach spots
  • Edging along driveways and walkways for a clean, crisp line
  • Mulching of clippings (the free-fertilizer standard) or bagging on request
  • Blowing of driveways, decks, and walkways after every visit
  • Sharp-blade cutting — no torn, brown tips from dull decks
  • Chinch bug and grub spot-checks in July/August (we flag before they spread)
  • Season opener and closer visits: first spring cut, final short cut before snow
  • Rain-day auto-rescheduling so the lawn never goes two weeks untouched

What mowing right actually means here

Halifax lawns are mostly a mix of fescue, ryegrass, and bluegrass — cool-season grasses that peak in spring, sulk in summer heat, and rebound hard in September. Cut them too short in July and they burn brown and stay there; the single most common lawn mistake in the province. We hold summer cuts at 3 inches or slightly higher, which shades the soil, holds moisture, and starves weeds of light.

The other local reality is weather chaos: a Halifax summer can serve a drought, a tropical rain remnant, and a foggy week back-to-back. Growth surges and stalls with it. Fixed-price weekly plans ride those swings — we slow to biweekly in a genuine drought (charging nothing extra for judgment) and never scalp a wet lawn just to stick to a schedule.

Fall is the make-or-break season. Regular cuts until growth genuinely stops — with the last cut slightly shorter — prevents the snow mould and mat-out that ruin lawns by April. Most of the "my lawn died over winter" calls we get are really "my lawn went into winter too long."

How we work

Two-minute quote — lot size and address are all we need to price it
Pick your day: same weekday every week, weather permitting
First visit: full cut, trim, edge, and blow — the baseline
Every visit after: cut, trim, blow, done, gate closed
Season end: final short cut and a lawn that wakes up clean in spring

Weekly service runs late May through September, easing to biweekly in October as growth winds down, with a final short cut in early November. Spring cleanups and the first cut of the year are available from late April when the frost is out.

Common questions

Do I need to be home when you mow?

No — most clients aren't. As long as gates are unlocked and pets are in, we handle it. You'll get a visit confirmation, and we text a photo summary of the first cut so you can see the standard.

What happens when it rains on my day?

We shift you within the week — usually the next dry day — at no charge. We never mow soaked ground (it ruts and tears the grass); a missed week gets a catch-up cut, and you're never billed twice for one week.

Weekly or biweekly — which should I choose?

Weekly in May–July when growth is explosive; biweekly can genuinely work in a dry August, on shaded lawns, or for budget control. Most clients start weekly and trust us to ease off in drought — your price stays flat while the judgment is ours.

Do you bag the clippings?

By default we mulch — finely chopped clippings return nitrogen to the lawn, which is why mulched lawns need less fertilizer. If you prefer bagging (spring green-up, tidy events, or a very wet stretch), we do it on request at no extra fuss.

Can you take care of the whole property, not just the grass?

Yes — that's the Total Care point. Bundle mowing with garden bed care, gutter cleaning, pressure washing, or window washing and one crew handles your whole property on one schedule and one invoice.
